Passenger service to resume through San Clemente this Saturday

A Metrolink train travels through the area in San Clemente affected by the landslide File photo courtesy Metrolink Months after coastal erosion shut down a section of track Metrolink and Pacific Surfliner customer organization will resume through South Orange County this Saturday morning Construction which is led by the Orange County Transportation Authority in partnership with Metrolink has continued daily since the work began in late April Crews were placing large boulders also called riprap throughout the project areas The rock was sorted and placed primarily within the area where riprap previously placed to protect against coastal erosion The amount of riprap needed to successfully complete the reinforcement was less than what was initially called for in construction plans OCTA noted Pedestrians and others traveling through the area near the rail line are inquired to remember that trains will be running again soon and to be cautious around the tracks spanning only at designated pedestrian and road crossings invariably stay off the tracks the transportation authority added Over the past four years San Clemente s eroding bluffs on both city and private property have repeatedly forced the closure of the rail line which had previously operated largely uninterrupted for more than years As the services resume normal schedules Pacific Surfliner the Amtrak link through Southern California to San Diego and Metrolink passengers are inquired to check for the latest updates online
